Spent the past few days up at Swan Lake – and was the fishing on!
While the numbers weren’t quite those of years gone by, the size of the fish and the fight they put on hasn’t waned too badly!
The fish that I caught ranged between 14″ and 29″ – with the average fish between 18″ and 20″
Had some typical end of fall weather – Saturday there was a wind warning for the area, which made for some interesting water! At least I know how my pontoon boat behaves in 2′ swells and whitecaps ;^)
A mink leech seemed to be the fly of choice this trip – Don Anderson had a version that he was using – I tied up some that were very similar to a rabbit zonker – and they were very durable and very effective!

We’ve decided on the area for our big spring fishing trip – and this year we decided to go out of province, to the White Swan/Top of the World area! A couple people from the local Jeep club have mentioned that there’s some awesome wheeling to be had, along with some spectacular fishing – mentioning a story of a 26lb trout being caught in the area 3 years ago!
Can’t wait!
End May, beginning of June can’t come soon enough!

Finally got around to renewing my fishing license. Thought I had to renew my WIN card, but turns out okay until 2013!
Our pontoon boat frames haven’t got back from North Fork Outdoors yet, but going to go wet a line tomorrow afternoon for a few hours anyway.
Should be fun!

Planning has begun for our annual spring fishing trip, and this year, we’re planning on venturing out of province.
The details aren’t set in stone yet, but some of the lakes we’re looking at exploring include some lakes in the White Swan Provincial Park area. Might take the Rubicon along, so that we can just set up camp once. Looking forward to some spectacular scenery, along with some great fishing!

Starting to get pumped… Reading a few posts of people getting out on the Bow River, and other locations south of here, flipping through fly fishing books and magazines just fuels the desire even more.
A couple friends and myself have set the date for our annual June excursion, and have the first week tentatively booked off. We’re really anxious to get the new pontoon boats (just ordered them last week) out on the water…. so I suspect that we’ll probably try them out on some more local waters before the big trip.
I’ve been trying to get more time in on the vise – doing up a bunch of Czech nymphs, and want to try more dry flies – so I’m doing up a variety of mayfly’s and caddis flies. All this along with the usual Muddler Minnows, TU mutants, and woolly buggers.
