Fishin’ Pics locked

Unfortunately the NLFT admins finally locked the thread – it must have gotten hijacked at least 3 times…. just as I had this pic to add ;^)

Wrangler Unlimited – Rubicon edition

Getting excited – hopefully in the next week everything all comes together and we’ll have a shiny new Jeep in the driveway!

Have a deal put together on the Rubicon – dual tops, towing package, power group – It looks awesome.  It wasn’t the first choice in color – as we ended up putting a deal together on a bright silver model.  Had wanted their steel blue model originally.  In hindsight, I think that the silver one is probably a better choice.  The Liberty looks good, and it’s the same color.

I hear the FTR calling next year for sure!

vacation is over

Yes, summer holidays are done.  While I didn’t get in as much fishing as I had hoped, I did manage to spend some time at the vise, and have a few dozen flies to add to the fly boxes.  All I did was tie up 2 or 3 flies every day – either later in the evening, or in the morning.

I tied up some of the standard patterns that I tend to go through – T.U.s, Spratleys, and Carey’s – and I also tied up a few wooly buggers, and scuds.  I also made up a couple patterns, experimenting a bit with materials and thread colors.

Hopefully some of these will see some water in the next couple of months before the hard water returns – who knows, maybe I can get out to a lake or two that I had hoped to hit during the past couple weeks.  We’ll see.  Who knows – maybe the trip will be in a new Jeep ;^)

Open water

Spring is coming!

Went for a drive to a couple local lakes with Shan yesterday, and actually found one spot had a fair bit of open water. The aerator was still running, and provided that the wind doesn’t pick up too significantly and blow a pile of ice in towards the dock, it should be okay this weekend!

We are so anxious to get the new pontoon boats wet – I set mine up in the living room just to practice the setup, and try and figure out where I want my rod holder and sonar mounted.

Global Warming Beer: Greenland Brews with Melting Ice Cap

Global Warming Beer: Greenland Brews with Melting Ice Cap : TreeHugger

Yeah I know – this has nothing to do with fly fishing or fly tying – but I just had to post this anyway. I have been known to enjoy a good beer or two on fishing trips, so I’ll use that as justification. Actually there’s another hook ;^) :

… small icebergs are specially selected by local fishermen, who tow them to the brewery …

If you have a problem with any of this – go tell the site admin ;^)

Anyway – This beer was just released in Copenhagen this past week – so I doubt that it’s available here in Canada – but I think that I’ll have to make a trip to a particular beer store in town to see.

Cheers! The ice is melting!
