This past weekend I finally got the new Jeep off-road!  It was a blast for sure – and a huge eye opener to see what this vehicle is capable of – and I didn’t even get close to pushing the limits.

Ironside Pond, Mitchell Lake and Beaver Lake

Been at the cabin here at Gull Lake for a few days now. Not sure which parts of this lake would be best for fishing – and with the size, I don’t think I’ll be cruising across it in the pontoon boat! Definitely been tempted though – supposed to be pike, walleye, and whitefish here.

So I drove the other morning to Ironside Pond. It was nice drive through Rocky Mtn. House down towards Caroline.

Upon getting there however, the road was gated closed. I had look at Mithchell Lake, which is directly south of the Ironside Pond turnoff. You drive through a cow pasture, and then down into a little valley. The lake is very small – definitely looked fishable, but not too exciting to spend an entire day at. So I ended up contuing my way south on 22, then headed a 5km east towards Caroline, where the Burnstick lake turnoff is. Headed up south again here, and went to Beaver Lake.

I was the only one there as I began putting the pontoon boat together. The fishing was slow (which I was kind of expecting), but I did bring three to the boat – ranging in size between 12 and 15″. I ended up heading back to Gull Lake after fishing for about 4 or 5 hours.

Visit fiftynorth.ca to check out this video

Lance and Greg, both from Northern Lights Fly Tyers and Fishers club that I’m also a member of had been subjected to the reports from a number of us about the hogs of Swan Lake.  Well, they finally made it out this past weekend and they’ve put together a video over at their site, fiftynorth.ca.

Enjoy!
