About

This site is basically a spot where I ramble on about anything to do with fly fishing, and fly tying. I had gotten into fly fishing back in the mid 80′s – when I lived in the Toronto area. When I moved back to Edmonton in ’89, I didn’t do much fishing at all until 1999-2000, when I tried fly fishing from a float tube for the first time ever. I had to borrow all of the equipment – as I had nothing.

After that weekend, I was hooked. In the next couple weeks I bought everything – including a bunch of fly tying materials, vise, and other tying tools. Yeah – I do have a tendency of jumping in with both feet when I decide I want to get into something. Have you seen my coffee site – coffevibe.com?

Well, now I’m a member of the Northern Lights Fly Tyers and Fishers (http://www.nlft.org) – for the past 3 or 4 years now actually. This has been an excellent way of learning more about fly tying and fishing. Each year they host a seminar along with the Edmonton chapter of Trout Unlimited – bringing in some very notable authors, fishermen, and fly tyers (So far I’ve seen and met Dave Hughes, Jim Schollmeyer, Rick Hafele, and Skip Morris). These have been weekend affairs, and are simply fantastic!

So, for the past number of years I had been hosting this site from a little P3 600Mhz server – running 24/7, this machine has only seen about 3 or 4 days of down time in the past 5 or 6 years! I was learning about Linux, and Apache and stuff.

Now I’ve decided that I should retire the old machine, but I don’t have the time to rebuild a new server, reconfigure both web and email services etc… so I’ve moved everything onto the web host that I’ve been using for domain parking and redirects for the past 4 years or so. In the process, I hope that this will allow me to focus more on content than having to worry about hardware, and keeping the hardware and operating systems up to date and secure. I guess we’ll see what happens!

I hope you find the site useful, interesting, and perhaps even entertaining…. feel free to register and comment on anything!
