pontoon boats

I think I might get a pontoon boat this year – trying to determine what to get though is harder than I thought….

Water Skeeter Chetco pontoon boatCriteria:

  • suitable for lake AND river fishing
  • durable (some of the rivers I see myself fishing on can get pretty shallow)
  • ease of assembly
  • motor mount (in case I decide to get an electric motor)
  • suitable for overnight trips

Not sure what else that I might/should take into consideration, other than a budget… but as in most things, it’s flexible – provided that there’s good justification. I’m a firm believer in “you get what you pay for”, but within reason ;^)

Outcast Cougar pontoon boatIt seems that the Outcast and Water Skeeter are the primary manufacturers of high quality pontoon boats… and from those suppliers, the Outcast Cougar seems to be the most appealing. I like the low draft (3″), and the low profile. However, I like the idea of a casting platform, like on the Water Skeeter Chetco…. the pontoons definitely seem like they would be good for the rivers (based on my experience with canoes), but I have heard that they aren’t great on shallower waters…Water Skeeter River Tamer pontoon boat

Northern Lights Silent Auction

The Northern Lights Fly Tyers and Fishers in conjunction with Trout Unlimited will be holding their annual fund-raising Silent Auction on February 23rd at Bo’diddley’s Roadhouse, 11650 142 Street , starting around 7pm .

Your $12.50 admission includes a steak dinner. You also get to bid on numerous silent auction items that include both fishing related and non-fishing items such as artwork, clothing and personal services.

We will also have a fish pull and raffle for some very desireable items plus a 50/50 draw.

This year we are hosting Casting For Life who will also have some items for auction.

There will be lots of conversation and socializing to accmpany the bidding wars, so if you want a fine evening out with fishing friends and spouses, come on out and support the fine causes represented.

A new home!

Yes – this is where any and all new content is going to be put – it largely looks the same, but the server is now somewhere on the eastern seaboard I believe ;^)

I’ve been running the site out of my basement for years – and the server has definitely seen better days.  I think that its time to retire the P3-600 for good now. With the relocation, I didn’t manage to get the user accounts moved over  – just the content (and still working on one of the photo galleries).  The new home is with 1&1, who I have been using for approx. 4 years – for site development projects, domain parking and DNS services.  I’ve been very happy with them.  Anytime that I’ve had any issues, a phone call typically was all it took – and I think that in 4 years, I’ve had to call them once!

I suppose the server retiring is just one excuse for the move – the other is that I’m finding that I just don’t have the spare cycles to look after keeping the server current.  I have upgraded the OS a few times – but the time needed to get a new server built and configured just doesn’t seem to be there.  So, all my web and mail stuff is going to 1&1 now – and I’ll soon have one less computer running in the house!
