and we’re back!

Evening at SulphurBack from 8 days of fishing.

We got to Sulphur Lake around 8:30 or so Friday night – the campground was the busiest I’ve ever seen it. The sites are no longer free, but the nightly fee is only $5.

Did some casting from shore, and did manage to tie into a 13″-14″ Rainbow. Over the next few days we would catch numerous fish – and we caught many more Brook Trout than previous years. Shan had chatted with the biologist in the region, and from netting tests of the lake, Brook Trout have become the dominant species in Sulphur Lake now. The fish seemed a bit smaller than previous years. I think that the largest fish was around 18″ or so.

We fished Sulphur till Tuesday, and moved on to Swan Lake for some bigger fish.

We managed to get lucky and got the last site with a firepit on the north side of the parking lot. The camping at Swan is still free, but unfortunately, it appears that there is no longer any maintenance of the area. The fish cleaning stand was a mess – containers inside full of maggots, and smelling bad. No firewood, so people were chainsawing deadfall, and dead trees.

On Thursday there was a visit by the stocking truck – and 31,000 trout were added to the lake. Here are some of the pictures:
