Pierre Grey Lakes

Posted at 2:01 pm under fly fishing

Spent a week fishing the lakes, both from the float tube, as well as trolling from an aluminum boat. The weather was excellent, with a little bit of rain on a couple days, but nice and sunny otherwise.

I caught my first bull trout in the first lake (at the MacDonald Day-use area)… a nice 17″ specimen, that turned out to be the largest I caught out of any of the lakes. The next day, I caught a 10″ juvenile bull in the same lake… and same bay. The day after that, I landed a 13″ bull trout. Nice to see the range of sizes, and I’m sure there are larger ones there.

I was a little disappointed at the campground, which although beautiful and many sites along the brookie lake, didn’t seem to be very well maintained… in a week, I never saw the campground maintenance other than the day we arrived… where a guy in an unmarked, beat up pick up truck, dropped of a little bit of wood, and stuck a roll of toilet paper in a couple outhouses. I get the impression that many of the locals take the lakes for granted, coming out to party, and throw beer cans everywhere in and around the lakes.
