Was watching “Fly Tying – The Angler’s Art” this morning, and one of the patterns they tied was this Chukar and Copper. Funny that they didn’t have any background information on it… I Google’d it, and found that the first page returned is actually that of a good freind’s father.
A nice easy fly to tie, I’ll test it out when we go to Pierre Greys in a couple weeks! Can’t wait for that trip!
- Hook: Standard Wet Sproat, size 10,12 or 14
- Thread: Brown
- Body: Soft Copper wire, 28 to 30 gauge. Preferably oxidized
- Hackle: Dark Blue Dun Chukar Partridge body feather

I saw this pattern being tied on a fly tying program on PBS yesterday. The tyer was going on about how effective a fly it is, so what the heck… will give it a whirl.
- Thread: Red
- Tail: Two strands of pearl Krystal Flash, each tied in a loop
- Body: Equal parts of gold, blond, and orange Hareline dubbing. Blend, then dub.
- Hackle: Grouse or partridge. Leave long enough to flow to about the middle of the Krystal Flash loops at the tail.

Well, I think that I’m finally all prepared for the fishing trip tomorrow… hmmm, today.
Getting up to be ready for 5:30AM might be tricky… going to set the alarm for 4:30.
Amazing how long it takes sometimes to get things organized, and get all the other things that need to be done apart from fishing stuff. Oh well… can probably catch a couple z’s on the water
Hopefully the lake is more cooperative than my first time out there last summer, when I had a couple strikes, but the brookies just refused to stay on my hooks!

Well, the time has come again… well, actually, I’ve made it out a few times so far this season already
A freind and I have hit the Beaumont Pond on a couple occasions already this year… and landing some healthy little rainbows (12-14″).
Last week, we headed out to Star with our tubes. He actually took the afternoon off from work.. and I headed out after work. I had a couple nice ones on… the first was around 20″, but manged to head shake his way off my hook. The second hit was even harder, and the elusive fish snapped my tippet.
Clouds were looking a little ominous, so I started working my way back to the beach, and 2/3 of the way back I had another hit. This one I managed to hang on to, and landed onto the tube… a nice healthy 16″ bow.
After releasing him, I continued back to the shore, and just as I got my tube off the beach, the winds picked up in a big way…. perfect timing to be off the lake. An excellent evening out!
This weekend we are planning on heading up north a little ways… to a tiny spot we visited last year. Hopefully I don’t get skunked this time!
