Skunked at Emerald

Posted at 5:21 pm under fly fishing

Emerald LakeIt’s a beautiful little lake, well off the beaten track, and four of us had it all to ourselves.

The fish finder was marking fish all over the place, with a good variety of different sized fish. The deepest parts of the lake were around 32 feet deep. Seemed most of the fish were around 13 feet and lower, typically in around 20 feet of water.

Was trolling nymphs around the lake in the tube, tried Alexanders, a tube minnow, a TU, and a beadhead prince….had some hits on the TU…was surprised that I lost one with the ferocity of the hit…it was so solid.

I forgot about the full sink chironomid technique described in “That Sinking Feeling” article in the Fly Fishing menu on the right. Wish I had read it again before heading out on Sunday :(

Oh well, the fish won this time…and I still had an most enjoyable day on a beautiful new lake I hadn’t been to before.
