Doing my bit for the environment
It was out of need, but still
My Scientific Angler fly boxes are full…but I didn’t really feel like spending $30 -$40 on a new fly box.

So, one night a buddy and I are heading home from another friends place, and he pulls out a tin of mints…”Altoids” to be exact. The tin would fit perfect in almost any one of my fishing vest pockets.
The next time I was at Safeway, I spotted them at the checkout, so I picked up a couple cans. Now, a couple weeks later, I finally finished them off (with the help of co-workers and kids).

I found an old mouse pad, traced the base of the Altoids tin onto the mouse pad with a Sharpie, then cut out the piece with scissors.
The mouse pad I used was about 3/16″ thick, which I thought was a little thin for the tin. 2 layers of the mousepad material worked perfect though. I then cut slits, 1/4″ or so apart, across the width of the piece, for the full length, into the back of one piece. Just had to be careful not to cut through the cloth top surface of the mousepad. There were about 8-10 slits in all, and fit this piece into the tin last, with the back facing out. Then just tuck your flies into the slits.

Another idea, for the lid, is to to get some of that adhesive backed, magnetic sheet, and stick that to the underside of the lid, to maximize the storage capacity of these handy little boxes.
