Cabela’s Planning 2nd Canadian store in Edmonton, Alberta

Cabela’s Incorporated (NYSE: CAB) announced today plans to bring the Cabela’s retail experience to loyal customers in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and the surrounding area.

Cabela’s expects to open the Edmonton store in fall of 2011. The 70,000-square-foot building will be located in the new Currents of Windermere shopping development on Windermere Boulevard, between Terwillegar Drive and Anthony Henday Drive. This store will be the second Cabela’s location in Canada, joining the Winnipeg store, which was converted from the S.I.R. Warehouse Sports Store in May 2008.

You can view the full news release here.

Be interesting to see how this plays out with Wholesale Sports, who recently opened up a large new store in South Edmonton Common.

No fishing yet! :^(

This has definitely not been the summer for fishing, so not much to post here unfortunately.
I’ve been stupid busy working on the house and stuff, and no time to be had…. maybe sometime in August, or just wait for the fall I suppose…

Spring fishing :^(

Well, instead of the 7 to 10 fishing trip with some buddies this year, I’m staying local, and working on the house. Kinda sucks – first time in 10 years that I’ve missed this trip!

This past weekend I finished tying up some flies for a swap that I’m participating in, the Small Fly Swap 2010 with the NLFT/TU club. These were the smallest flies that I’ve ever tied – #28! With eyes ramping up to 50 years old, it was a bit of a challenge, but thankfully I had purchased a magnifying glass attachment for my Peak vise.

I also had to swap out the standard jaws on the vise, replacing them with the midge jaws – recommended for hooks smaller than #22. Fun stuff – as I haven’t used those midge jaws yet as I’ve never actually tied anything smaller than #18 before. ;^)

Deciding what to tie was a bit of a challenge – but after browsing through my copy of Compendium of Canadian Fly Patterns, I got inspired and made up a nice simple pattern.

Here’s the pattern I came up with:

HOOK: Mustad 94834 #28
THREAD: Gudenbrod 10/0 Black
TAIL: Crystal Flash
BODY: Peacock herl

I’ll post up some pix once the fly’s from the swap are distributed.
